Kenyan Motorist Drives Land Rover Across Canada in Epic Coast-to-Coast Journey
A Kenyan driver is crossing Canada from Atlantic to Pacific in his Nairobi-registered Land Rover, connecting with diaspora communities along the way.

From Nairobi to the Canadian Rockies
A Kenyan motorist is undertaking an ambitious overland expedition across Canada, driving his Land Rover from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific in a journey that has captivated the Kenyan diaspora and showcased the spirit of African adventure on North American soil.
The driver, who documents his travels through his social media platform Alpha Land Rover, is piloting his Land Rover KAJ 655S—a vehicle widely associated with endurance and exploration—across Canada's highways, mountain routes, and remote regions.
The Kenyan-registered vehicle has become a familiar sight on Canadian roads and has been welcomed by members of the Kenyan diaspora, who view it as a symbol of connection to home.
More than a road trip
The journey has developed into more than a personal expedition. Along the route, the motorist has been stopping to meet Kenyan communities across Canada, creating moments of connection and pride for diaspora members who see the iconic Kenyan number plate as a tangible link to their homeland.
The Land Rover carries symbolic significance beyond its mechanical capabilities. Long linked to expeditions across Africa's rugged terrain, the vehicle is now traversing Canada's vast landscapes, from coastal provinces to the Rocky Mountains.
Proven track record of endurance
The current Canadian expedition follows an even more ambitious journey completed in 2023, when the driver travelled solo from Nairobi to North Cape in Norway—the northernmost point of Europe. That journey covered nearly 30,000 kilometres across 37 countries.
During the European expedition, he encountered difficult border crossings, visa requirements, and changing weather conditions, particularly in West Africa, demonstrating the planning and resilience required for such long-distance overland travel.
Diaspora embraces the journey
The cross-Canada drive has resonated strongly with Kenyans living abroad, many of whom follow the journey online and coordinate meet-ups when the Land Rover passes through their cities.
For diaspora members, the sight of a Kenyan-registered vehicle navigating North American roads represents a reversal of the usual narrative—instead of Kenyans adapting to foreign environments, this is a piece of Kenya confidently claiming space on the global stage.
The journey continues westward, with the motorist expected to reach the Pacific coast in the coming weeks.
